Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder that affects the digestive system. It is often associated with stress, depression, anxiety or intestinal infection. It is a verity of chronic symptoms that include abdominal pain and an alternation in bowel habits.

Its chronic nature, symptoms, and sign have many negative effects on the quality of life for the sufferer. So, proper treatment is necessary.

Types of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS):-

There are three types of irritable bowel syndrome.

IBS with Constipation:-

It causes stomach pain and disturbs, bloating, abnormally delayed or bowel movement or hard stool.

IBS with Diarrhea:-

It also causes stomach pain and disturbs an urgent need to move your bowels.

IBS with alternating constipation and Diarrhea:-

Constipation and Diarrhea at the same time is very severe constipation. It can cause loose stools.

Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS):-

The most common and serious sign and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome are:

  • Abdominal Pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Bloating
  • Rectal Bleeding
  • Swallowing
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Weight Loss
  • Difficulty Sleeping
  • Iron deficiency anemia
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Fever

Diagnosis:-

For IBS diagnosis your doctor may be able to diagnose with a complete medical history. In some cases, a diagnosis will be based on your typical symptoms of Irritable bowel syndrome.

Your doctor may do some test to decide if you have IBS.

  • X-rays
  • Endoscopy
  • Sigmoidoscopy or Colonoscopy for inflammation in your intestine
  • Stool Test
  • Blood Test for anemia
  • Test for celiac disease
  • Test for gluten allergy
  • Test for lactose intolerance

Diet for IBS:-

To reduce the symptoms of IBS proper diet and activities are necessary.

  • Abstain from caffeine
  • Abstain  from smoking
  • Eat smaller meals
  • Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts.
  • Drink at least three to four glasses of water per day.

Medication:-  

These medications are used to treat Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Bulking Agent:-

A Bulking agent such as (Psyllium) help to slow the movement of food through the digestive system. It also helps to alleviate symptoms.

Antibiotics:-

Antibiotics such as (Rifaximin), it may change the bacteria’s amount in your intestine. It helps to reduce the symptoms for as long as 6 months.

For Abdominal Pain and Constipation:-

Antispasmodics:-

It can control colon muscle spasms.

Antidepressants:-

It can help to reduce the symptoms of IBS.

Probiotics:-

It helps to treat digestive problems.

For Constipation:-

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG):-

It is best for those who can not abide by dietary fiber supplements.

Linaclotide:-

It helps to relieve constipation. You can take a capsule daily on an empty stomach.

Lubiprostone:-

When other treatments have not helped, Lubiprostone can treat IBS with constipation in women.

Plecanatide:-

It increases gastrointestinal fluid in your gut.

Home Remedies for IBS:-

  • Take exercise regularly
  • Sip a soothing tea
  • Use Heat
  • Drink Plenty of liquids
  • Avoid problem foods
