Virus Total is a website created by the Spanish security company Hispanic Systems. Launched in June 2004 and acquired by Google Inc. in September 2012. The company was acquired by the Chronicle, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., in January 2018. Virus Total gathers many antivirus products and online scan engines to look for viruses that may be exposed to a user’s own antivirus or to verify against false positives. Files up to 550 MB can be uploaded to the site or sent via email (maximum 32 MB). Antivirus software vendors can receive copies of files that were flagged by other scans, but with their own engine, they can help improve software and improve their virus-virus capabilities. Users can also scan the suspicious URL and search through the Virus Total Dataset.
The virus uses the Coco sandbox for dynamic analysis of the malware virus. Virus Total was selected by PC World as one of the top 100 products in 2007. VirusTotal is an internet security URL and file analyzer. It’s headquartered in Dublin, Irland.
Virus Total Windows Uploader was a program that integrated into the Explorer shortcut menu (right-click), listed under Send> Virus Total. The application is also launched manually to present the URL or any program currently running in the OS.

The SHA256 query address is https://www.virustotal.com/latest-scan/SHA256. Uploading files is usually limited to 128 MB. In 2017, Virus Total stopped supporting Windows Uploader.
